Practical Preventives Stay home. Get plenty of rest and exercise. Eat for health. Use good hygiene. Maintain safe social distancing. The best way to love your neighbor as yourself, may be to stay home, and stay healthy. Vitamins & Minerals that Boost Immunity Vitamin A and/or Beta Carotene. Vitamin C - given intravenously, it will avoid the diarrhea that therapeutic doses may cause. Vitamin D. Stress B Complex. Zinc - bound with an Amino Acid, not Zinc Oxide. Magnesium for more anxious, high-strung people. Calcium for more relaxed, calm people. Herbs Elderberry, St. Johnswort. Pleurisy Root, and Horehound are among the primary herbs used to help treat viral respiratory infections in the European herbal tradition. Oregon Grape Root, Sage, Usnea and Lomatium are among the primary herbs used traditionally by the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest for lung infections. Primary herbs used in Chinese medicine include Andrographis, Ma Huang, mushrooms such as Ganoderma, Maitake and Shiitake, Licorice Root, Garlic, and Ginger. In all traditions, the herbs chosen depend on if a person has a damp, or dry, condition, as well as other factors. Resveratrol is an extract of various plants including grapes and Knotweed that is particularly helpful, as is Berberine, which is found in a number of plants including Oregon Grape Root mentioned above. Homeopathy Gelsemium (Jasmine that has been potentized 30 or more times) is taken monthly during flu season. It’s been a mainstay for prophylaxis against flu for more than 150 years. The homeopathic remedy for most appears to be Sulphur. Lycopodium or Bryonia may be needed by some. Phosphorus and Arsenic may be needed in a few cases.
