Hazards of Mercury Fillings by John Ruhland, ND Are your symptoms really all in your head? Here is a self-test for mercury toxicity:
Definition of amalgam = any alloy containing mercury. A typical amalgam/silver dental filling contains 50 percent mercury, 35 percent silver, 13 percent tin, and 2 percent copper. Mercury is very toxic, more so than lead, cadmium, or arsenic. The American Dental Associations (ADA) published claim is when mercury is combined with the metals used in dental amalgam, its toxic properties are made harmless, and the amalgam becomes a biological inactive substance. Yet, the ADA, OSHA, and EPA have declared leftover scrap dental amalgam to be a toxic hazard to dental personnel, to the dental office, and to the environment! Human autopsy studies prove that dental amalgam mercury enters the patients body and builds up with time. Mercury is known to damage the brain and nervous system, the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands, the heart and lungs, as well as hormones and enzymes. Mercury is a very potent suppresser of the immune system and is known to damage the brain and nervous system of unborn babies. Research on the toxic effects of amalgam dental fillings is being conducted in many parts of the world, including New Zealand, England, Sweden, Australia, Canada, and German. All research to date has proven that every person with amalgam restorations has increased the toxic load on his/her body. In several countries, the use of mercury for dental fillings has been banned. Even one major amalgam manufacturer has announced that it will discontinue the production of amalgam.
